Get to Know Hyacinth

Meet Hyacinth Kearney, a dedicated Couple and Family Intern with a profound interest in the intricate dynamics of relationship issues. Hyacinth's primary focus lies within the realm of intimacy, shame, guilt, sexual psychoeducation, body attunement, and varied forms of grief. She works predominantly with individuals, couples, and adolescents, providing a safe, empowering environment to explore all aspects of their identity.

Hyacinth holds a Bachelor's degree in Gender, Sexuality, & Women's studies with a minor in Psychology from UC Davis and is currently progressing towards a Master's Degree in Couple and Family Therapy with a Sex Therapy Certification at Antioch University. Her continuous learning and commitment to professional growth are evident in her memberships with the WAMFT and AAMFT, and her ongoing pursuit of a sex therapy certification.

Influenced by Narrative, IFS, and EFT therapeutic models, Hyacinth approaches therapy with a client-centered, holistic, and collaborative perspective. She deeply believes in the transformative power of self-exploration and curiosity. Hyacinth views therapy as a journey that begins even before the client steps into her office, and she passionately advocates for clients' active participation in their path to healing and growth.

As a white, queer, millennial woman, Hyacinth brings a nuanced understanding to her practice, particularly when working with individuals grappling with sexual shame and guilt or difficulty experiencing sexual pleasure. She thrives on empowering her clients to overcome obstacles and reclaim their self-worth, guided by Rupi Kaur's inspiring words: "If you were born with the weakness to fall, you were born with the strength to rise."

Away from her professional duties, Hyacinth relishes her time spent journaling or relaxing with episodes of the Great British Bake Off. She has a heart for animals and frequently fosters cats, enjoying the opportunity to witness their unique and often amusing personalities. She also volunteers at the Ballard Food Bank, contributing to her local community.

While she may be new to her journey as a therapist, Hyacinth's dedication, passion, and unwavering belief in the power of therapy make her a tremendous asset to our team.
