Symone Montgomery is a Marriage and Family Therapy intern at Northwest Relationships, practicing under the supervision of Brittany Thomas, LMFT. She works with individuals, couples, families, and children around relational and identity-based trauma, relationship challenges, family dynamics, cultural and racial identity, anxiety and OCD, feelings of exclusion or marginalization, life transitions, and personal growth. Symone is especially drawn to clients who often feel responsible for others, particularly oldest siblings carrying unseen emotional labor.
Symone approaches therapy from a client-centered, holistic, and systemic lens. She believes meaningful change is often uncomfortable, nonlinear, and deeply personal, and that therapy isn't about being fixed but about noticing patterns, building awareness, and creating space for intentional growth. A core part of her work is learning what hasn't worked for clients in the past. By understanding previous therapy experiences, coping strategies, and barriers to change, she adapts her approach and regularly checks in to ensure the work feels supportive and aligned with client goals.
Symone holds a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Family and Child Studies from the University of New Mexico, and is currently completing her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pacific Lutheran University. She is a student member of AAMFT and WAMFT. Symone identifies as a biracial Black and Hispanic cisgender woman, and brings lived experience with anxiety and OCD into her work with humility and empathy. Originally from Albuquerque, she values cultural awareness, emotional safety, and meaningful connection, and brings a relational lens informed by her own long-term partnership and family experience. Outside of session, she cares for her growing collection of houseplants, plays piano, and paints.
Therapy isn't about being fixed. It's about noticing the patterns, and choosing what to do with them.
