OUT-OF-NETWORK
Using out-of-network benefits
Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network therapy. If your insurance isn't listed above, here's how it usually works.
How superbills work
A "superbill" is an itemized receipt of the therapy you've paid for. You submit it to your insurance, and — if your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits — they reimburse you directly for a portion of the cost.
1.
Pay your session fee at time of service
2.
We email you a monthly superbill with the diagnosis and CPT codes.
3.
Submit to your insurance (most have an online portal)
4.
Your insurer pays you directly based on your OON benefits.
Questions to ask your insurer
Before your first session, call the member-services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:
1.
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
2.
What's my out-of-network deductible? And how much have I met?
3.
Is there a session limit per year?
4.
Do I need pre-authorization for outpatient therapy?
