Emily Emerson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Northwest Relationships. She works with individuals, couples, and families around stress and anxiety, relationship dynamics, identity exploration, self-esteem, family and youth concerns, and sex therapy. Her work has particular care for clients exploring gender and sexuality, providing a supportive environment to reflect on those experiences with sensitivity.
Emily integrates Narrative Family Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy, grounded in the Person-of-the-Therapist model, which emphasizes authenticity and self-awareness in the work. She is also Geek Therapy® Certified, a therapeutic approach that draws on a client's interests in gaming, fantasy, anime, and comics to create a comfortable and engaging space for the work to happen.
Emily holds an M.A. in Couple and Family Therapy from Antioch University Seattle and a B.A. in Applied Social Sciences from Colorado State University Global. She is a member of AAMFT and was nominated for WAMFT Student Associate of the Year in 2024. She has presented on parasocial relationships and identity in clinical work at the International Family Therapy Association World Congress in Toyama, Japan. Outside of session, Emily takes care of her two cats, Miqo'te and Mellie, and her sole surviving houseplant, Steve. She's deep into trading card games, Gundam model kits, D&D podcasts, JRPGs, and MMORPGs, and is, by her own description, a geek, gamer, Swiftie, and nerd.
I find real joy in helping people embrace who they actually are.
