Get to know me
Katie Harley is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist at Northwest Relationships, practicing under the supervision of Brittany Thomas, LMFT. She works with individuals, couples, and adult families who are ready to explore the deeper layers of their emotional experiences, relationships, and identities. Her clinical focus includes complex trauma, relationship challenges, identity and orientation, anxiety, self-awareness, adult family healing, and survival patterns rooted in childhood.
Katie's approach is client-centered, collaborative, anti-oppressive, and holistic, grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, DBT, and polyvagal-informed care. She brings warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for each client's lived experience, meeting people where they are. Katie believes therapy can be beautiful and challenging at once, and that growth often requires meeting difficult truths with compassion. She frequently incorporates expressive modalities like poetry, painting, and textile art as ways to deepen insight and reach what words alone can't.
Katie holds an M.A. in Couple and Family Therapy from Antioch University and a B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation from Eastern Washington University. She is trained in Gottman Method Levels 1 and 2 and has completed specialized training in trauma and IFS with Richard Schwartz and Tamala Floyd. Before training as a therapist, Katie worked in both child and adult inpatient psychiatric settings, an experience that shaped her belief in each person's innate resilience and capacity for growth, even in the face of deep pain. Katie identifies as a bisexual woman, was raised Catholic, and now holds a spiritually agnostic worldview. Outside of session, she's an anime enthusiast, artist, and nature lover, and spends time outdoors with her husband and their two beloved rescue pitties.
Therapy can be both beautiful and challenging.
