Get to know me
Alexis Cayne is a Marriage and Family Therapy intern at Northwest Relationships, practicing under the supervision of Brittany Thomas, LMFT. She works with children, teens, individuals, and families, with focus areas in life transitions, grief and loss, parenting challenges, attachment concerns, family relationship dynamics, and emotional regulation. Alexis is passionate about providing LGBTQ+ affirming and neurodiversity-affirming care, and is especially excited to work with children ages 4-10 and their families as a training play therapist.
Alexis's therapeutic work is grounded in Attachment Theory, Contextual Family Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy. She approaches each client with curiosity, flexibility, and respect, recognizing that every person's story, strengths, and needs are unique. Through a systemic lens, she helps clients explore the larger patterns and relationships that influence their lives, creating opportunities for greater self-understanding, stronger connections, and lasting growth. She views clients as the experts of their own lives, and helps children especially develop the language to express their thoughts and feelings while creating a space where they can simply be themselves.
Alexis is currently completing her Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy at Antioch University, where she is also enrolled in the Play Therapy Certificate Program as she works toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She holds a B.A. in Psychology from San Jose State University, with minors in Child Development and Human Systems Integration. Originally from Los Angeles, Alexis brings personal insight into how family transitions shape relationships, having grown up in a divorced family. She is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for clients from all backgrounds. Outside of session, Alexis spends time outdoors, walks, picnics, visits the lake, relaxes at the beach, loves live music, travels, tries new foods, and consumes an endless amount of cat content. Fun fact: her family has a black polydactyl cat named Binx, inspired by her favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus.
Change happens when you can embrace both your strengths and your struggles.
