Get to know me
Julie Thatcher is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate at Northwest Relationships, practicing under the supervision of Margaret MacLeod, LMFT. She works with individuals, couples, and adolescents around anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, disordered eating in the context of addiction, and relationship challenges. Julie is especially passionate about helping clients shift painful patterns, build emotional safety, and create meaningful change in their relationships and lives.
Julie is EMDRIA-trained in EMDR and currently pursuing certification, and is also completing certification in Relational Life Therapy. She integrates evidence-based practice with person-centered, CBT, experiential, and integrative approaches, balancing compassion, clarity, and lovingly direct feedback. Clients often describe her as energetic, thoughtful, and highly attuned. She is also well-versed in 12-step recovery communities and applies both clinical training and lived experience to her work with addiction and behavior change.
Julie holds an M.A. in School Counseling from the University of Iowa, an EdS in Academic Administration from Arkansas State University, and a B.A. from UC Berkeley. Before becoming a therapist, she built a rich and varied professional life including work in teaching, academic advising, academic administration, school counseling, and research administration. Having lived in communities from New York to California to Iowa to Arkansas, she brings cultural humility and an ability to connect with people from many walks of life. Julie is a long-time LGBTQIA+ ally and a parent who has supported her own child through gender-affirming care. She and her partner have weathered divorce proceedings, blended families, parenting through crisis, and major life transitions, lived experience that informs her work with couples. Outside of session, Julie meditates daily, jogs, hikes, does Lagree workouts, and loves live performance of all kinds, from tiny clubs to the opera house.
Painful patterns can shift when there's enough safety to look at them honestly.
