Get to Know Julie
Julie Thatcher (she/her) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) at Northwest Relationships who brings deep insight, warmth, and active engagement to every therapeutic relationship. She is passionate about helping clients move beyond painful patterns, heal from trauma, and build authentic, fulfilling lives and relationships. Julie works with individuals, couples, and adolescents, and is especially drawn to clients navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, disordered eating in the context of addiction, trauma, and relational struggles.

Julie is EMDRIA-trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and actively pursuing certification. She is also completing certification in Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and integrates approaches from CBT, person-centered, and integrative therapy models. Her approach is evidence-based, client-centered, holistic, and deeply collaborative. Clients describe Julie as highly engaged, lovingly inquisitive, and compassionate—with an ability to balance direct feedback with deep care.

With a BA from UC Berkeley, an MA in School Counseling from the University of Iowa, and an EdS in Academic Administration from Arkansas State University, Julie brings decades of experience working with people across diverse communities and life stages. She also holds a STAR Level 2 training certificate for working with military families and is a former school counselor with an ESA certificate.
As someone who has lived and worked across urban, rural, and suburban communities—from New York to California, Iowa to Arkansas—Julie brings lived cultural humility and a commitment to learning from every client’s unique background and story. She is well-versed in 12-step recovery models and proudly brings both professional training and lived experience to her work with addiction and behavior change.

Julie is a strong LGBTQIA+ ally and a parent who has walked alongside her own child through gender-affirming care. In her personal life, she’s in a long-term marriage that survived divorce proceedings and is the proud parent of three grown children.

Outside of work, Julie enjoys live performances of all kinds, jogging, hiking, daily meditation, and quality time with loved ones. She strives to bring creativity, balance, and intention into every part of life—including the therapy room.
