Get to Know Maya

Maya Kattan (she/her) is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern at Northwest Relationships who brings warmth, openness, and a deep respect for the unique lived experiences each client carries. She is particularly passionate about working with adolescents, individuals navigating identity development, and families processing intergenerational or cultural challenges. Maya believes in creating a space where clients of all ages feel safe to explore the complex intersections of race, religion, gender, and sexuality—especially for second-generation individuals, people of color, and LGBTQ+ communities.

Maya is currently completing her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pacific Lutheran University and holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Washington Tacoma and an Associate’s degree in Pre-Nursing from Green River Community College. A proud member of AAMFT, she approaches therapy with a systemic and client-centered lens, and she is currently exploring modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy and the Satir Model as part of her developing therapeutic identity.

As a queer, chronically ill, second-generation Palestinian woman, Maya understands the power of holding multiple truths and identities at once. She brings this awareness into her work, helping clients process internal conflicts, cultural expectations, and systemic influences that may be impacting their mental health and relationships. Whether supporting teens of color navigating predominantly white spaces or adults exploring the interplay of faith, culture, and sexuality, Maya is committed to honoring her clients' stories with compassion and care.

Clients describe Maya as genuine, thoughtful, and deeply affirming. She values collaboration in therapy and works closely with clients to set goals, build insight, and foster change at a pace that feels sustainable and supportive.

Outside of therapy, Maya enjoys spending time with loved ones, attending concerts, and reading. She's an avid plant parent—despite her ongoing mystery struggle with succulents—and finds joy in caring for her indoor jungle.
