Get to Know Symone
Symone Montgomery is a Graduate Student Therapist in Marriage and Family Therapy who brings warmth, curiosity, and a deeply collaborative approach to the therapy room. Symone works with individuals, couples, families, and children, and is especially interested in supporting clients navigating trauma—particularly relational and identity-based trauma—relationship challenges, and experiences of exclusion or marginalization.

Symone approaches therapy from a client-centered, holistic, and systemic lens. She believes meaningful change is often uncomfortable, nonlinear, and deeply personal—and that therapy is not about being “fixed,” but about noticing patterns, building awareness, and creating space for intentional growth. Symone views the therapeutic process as a partnership, where clients lead with their lived experience and values while she offers guidance, reflection, and support.

A core part of Symone’s work involves learning what hasn’t worked for clients in the past. By understanding previous therapy experiences, coping strategies, and barriers to change, she adapts her approach to better meet each client’s needs. She values flexibility, openness, and ongoing collaboration, regularly checking in to ensure therapy feels supportive and aligned with client goals.

Symone holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of New Mexico, with a minor in Family and Child Studies, and is an active student member of AAMFT and WAMFT. She has completed leadership and research ethics training through the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative.

Symone identifies as a biracial Black and Hispanic cisgender woman and brings lived experience with anxiety and OCD into her work with humility and empathy. Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she values cultural awareness, emotional safety, and meaningful connection. She also brings a relational lens informed by her own experiences in long-term partnership and family dynamics.

Symone is particularly drawn to working with clients who often feel responsible for others—especially oldest siblings—who may carry unseen emotional labor or feel overlooked in their own families. She hopes to offer a space where clients can focus on themselves, feel deeply supported, and explore who they are outside of caretaking roles.

Outside of therapy, Symone enjoys caring for her growing collection of houseplants, playing piano, and painting as ways to manage stress and reconnect with herself. She approaches her training with openness and humility and is committed to continued learning as she grows into her role as a therapist.
